A fisherman's home anno 1915

The Vendsyssel Historical Museum's department in Hirtshals is housed in a fisherman's home built of boulders in 1880, also called "The Checkered House". It was unusual for a fisherman's home to be built of boulders, and as can also be seen from the exhibition, the interior design was characterized by a greater prosperity than was seen in most other homes in the area.

The house was built by Peder and Ane Rimmen, but was sold in 1889 to Ane's brother Jens Gaardo, who was also a fisherman.
"The checkered house" has been part of Hirtshals Museum since 1972, and today the farmhouse has been reconstructed as an interior anno 1915, which shows how a fishing family lived at that time.
