It is built from quarried fieldstones and consists of a choir, nave, and a porch. The building form, as it appears today, is very close to its original appearance.
Karup Church is a 'saddleback' church – meaning it lacks a tower.
Around the 1500s, the interior of the church was altered with the installation of vaults instead of the original wooden ceiling.
During a restoration project in 1957, six coins were discovered. The most remarkable one dates back to the time of King Valdemar the Victorious, struck in Ribe between 1202-1241. Another coin was from King Valdemar Atterdag around 1252. This suggests the church may be older than the year 1200 and could possibly date back to the 12th century.
The church can be opened by arrangement with the caretaker Solveig Jensen at phone: 24 89 49 17
